Germany’s World Cup-winning midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger will be out for “several weeks”, according to Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
The 30-year-old is therefore set to miss the Bavarians start of their Bundesliga title defence against Wolfsburg on Friday.
Schweinsteiger is reportedly suffering from a ligament problem in his left knee.
Coach Pep Guardiola, who is yet to have Franck Ribery and Thaigo Alcantara back from injury, will have to exercise “several weeks of patience” on the German
midfielder.
“It won’t only be a case of one or two weeks, but rather a bit longer,” Rummenigge said.
Rummenigge added that Schweinsteiger could also miss Germany’s friendly with
Argentina in a repeat of the World Cup final on 3 September and their opening UEFA EURO 2016 qualifier against Scotland four days later.
