Djokovic Wins Fifth China Open Title

World number one Novak Djokovic was in terrific form en route to straight sets win over Czech third seed Thomas Berdych as he claimed his fifth China Open title on Sunday.

The Serb was on his way to a double bagel win at 5-0 up in the second set but Berdych managed to restore some pride before he finished off a 6-0 6-2 victory.

The win adds to his previous triumphs in 2009 (defaeted Cilic), 2010 (defeated Ferrer), 2012 (defeated Tsonga) and 2013
(defeated Nadal). The 27-year-old winner receives 500 Emirates ATP Rankings points and $604,000.

The top seed, who has not dropped set all week, also improved his record in Beijing
to 24-0. He has not loss at the
tournament since his debut in 2009.

“This has been, in the circumstances, probably the best performance of any final in my career,” said Djokovic. “It was
incredible. Incredible. Especially against Tomas, who has a big game and is already an experienced player. It was 6-0, 5-0 in under an hour. Everything I tried worked. To be proud of the performance is the least I can say of how I played tonight.

“I have played some great finals, had some convincing wins, some straight-set wins against top rivals. But with this kind of performance and with this domination result-wise, I mean it’s never happened.”

Djokovic has now won five titles on the ATP World Tour circuit this season following successes at Wimbledon (d. Federer) and three ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments in Indian Wells
(d. Federer), Miami (d. Nadal) and Rome (d. Nadal).
